Return to Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

At Kingswood Nursery School we are committed to ensuring equality of provision, education and opportunity for all children, families, staff, parents and carers receiving services from our services, irrespective of ethnicity, gender, disability, special educational need, sexual orientation, age or beliefs as defined within existing equalities legislation.

We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to Kingswood feel proud of their identity and are able to participate fully in Nursery and Pre-School life. We are committed to ensuring that everybody is valued, listened to, understood and treated, as they themselves want to be treated. We aim to remove barriers to learning and respond to children’s diverse learning needs.

These factors are considered in our approach to the curriculum and will be adhered to when planning and delivering our curriculum.

The Areas of Learning and Development

There are seven areas of learning and development that shape educational programmes in Early Years settings. The children will work towards these until the end of their reception year.

All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected.   At Pre-School and Nursery we are laying the foundations for children’s future learning through a balance of child initiated and adult initiated play. In addition to the activities we provide, we make visits to other places of interest to extend children’s experiences. We also invite various specialists and visitors into school to support our teaching and learning. Parents are always welcome to come into school and take part in their child’s learning and to share special skills they may have!
